This is a very difficult game to beat on Samurai mode (Hardest gameplay mode), though it is easier than it's predecessor. The entire game has a nice art direction, and there's a lot of unique looking scenery/enemies. The cut-scenes are done similarly to the last game: Comic style with speech bubbles. They feel satisfying and fit the game well. Story follows a story line, while Arcade is a simple mode consisting of 50 levels, each level progressively harder, and with new rules (like Hot Potato, where you must constantly switch weapons so that they don't over heat). There are two gameplay modes: Story and Arcade. There are a total of 30, and they serve as a collectible of sorts. Using them allows you to customize your character to your liking.
Some of their effects include Health regen and heightened attack values. You can find a Rock Band type mini game in some levels which, upon completion, gives you a special bead. You'll face cyborgs and zombies, as well as Zombie-Shark-Mechs. There's usually a bossfight or two in every level, with a great variety of enemies in between. The game follows a fairly linear path, with some searching necessary to find key items and the like. Using coins earned from defeated enemies, you can also purchase food items and character upgrades to make life easier. These weapons can be upgraded in the scattered "HALPER BOT Shops" throughout the levels of the game. His other weapons include dual meat cleavers, an electric squirt gun (reminiscent of Super Mario Sunshine), and a large hammer made of a cinder block with knives attacked via barbed wire (appropriately named the "Violence Hammer") He can wield a Shift Blade (his stock katana), which gives him the ability to evade in a similar manner to Yuki, so he isn't lacking in that department. The Dishwasher lacks the imposing feature of a chainsaw arm, but he makes up for it in his slightly larger armory. Yuki also has the ability to break down her body into blood and warp around as a red mist, allowing for quick dodging maneuvers. Her melee weapons range from a Kama (scythe) to a giant Syringe. Yuki has a chainsaw arm, which she can change into a Gatling/Shotgun arm later in the game. Other than that, however, their weapon choices are very different. Both of which have a generic stock katana type sword.
You can chose between two characters: The Dishwasher and The Prisoner (Yuki). You can pull of great looking combos really easily.Īs far as weapons themselves go, there's a good variety. Where it shines is it's on the fly weapon switching, and it's simple finishing system. Vampire Smile is a good old fashioned 2D side scrolling beat-em-up. VS has improved upon the original's formula in many ways, and as the achievement says, "Game Reviewers Shall Be Pleased." The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile is the sequel to The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai, and is a very similar game.
